The Maltese Ministry for Foreign Affairs has recently introduced new requirements for legally certified translations that are intended to bolster the integrity of translated documents with respect to their source material, as well as ensure their amenability for legal and commercial use.
According to the new rules, translated documents shall only be recognised officially by local and international public authorities if these are endorsed by a notary or lawyer whose signature is registered with the Ministry.
All translations must now be accompanied by copies of the original documents, which must be certified as true copies of the originals by a Notary Public who is registered with the Ministry for Foreign Affairs. All translations required for processes administered by Identity Malta must be apostilled by the Ministry for Foreign Affairs.
