The annual Valletta Film Festival aims to bring stories from around the world to Valletta audiences through a curated program of the best in international films. Each year, the festival welcomes directors, actors, producers, cinematographers, writers and critics from around the globe to our shores.

Dialogue and exchange through cinematic creativity is at the heart of what we offer to festival-goers. So it’s fitting that for 2017, VFF’s region-focused Without Borders cinema section is made possible with the support of Transcripta. Our diverse team offers native proficiency in all major languages, translating an average of five million words annually for a broad spectrum of specialised areas, including European institutions and international firms.

Valletta Film Festival 2017

Between the 16th and the 25th June 2017, the third edition of the Valletta Film Festival will bring a dynamic selection of independent cinema to a variety of unique venues across the city.

Alongside indoor and outdoor screenings, talks, workshops and events, seven feature films will be competing for the Triton awards. Adjudicated by an international jury made up of directors, actors, producers, cinematographers, writers and critics, the competition is fierce every year.

Throughout the festival, a program of 25 short films will be also be running for the award for Best Short Film, plus the Documentary section will showcase seven hard-hitting documentary works.

Without Borders: A Latin Lens for 2017

The magical Herbert Ganado Gardens, boasting spectacular views of the Valletta Grand Harbour, will be the stage for the ‘Without Borders’ section hosted by Transcripta. This year’s event will be focusing on feature films from Latin America.

The curated selection for 2017 includes the complex and moving ‘Arabia’ by Affonso Uchôa and João Dumans (Brazil) and the gritty, atmospheric drama ’Woodpeckers’ by Jose Maria Cabral from the Dominican Republic.

The ‘Without Borders’ concept coincides with Transcripta’s mission as a facilitator of intercultural dialogue through translation services. All the films screened in this category are eligible for the Valletta Film Festival Audience Award too; so don’t forget to vote!
